Miss Teen Sudbury District World 2010

AboutMe

Hey Guys! This is all fairly new to me so bare with me! My name is Michelle Mainville and I grew up in a crater in Ontario. For those of you who have not caught onto my joke sorry I am not that great of a comedian but, I am talking about Sudbury, a basin which is believe to be the remnants of a 1.85-billion year old meteorite impact crater. Growing up I was always a shy little girl and to be honest I still kind of am although, I am taking this experience and just hoping it will pull me out of my shell. I figure Hey! If I do it enough, I will get used to it and it won’t be that bad. I am currently finishing my 5th year at Lasalle Secondary School for some extra credits for the Biomedical program I will be taking in the fall at Laurentian University. When it comes to modeling and pageants I have very little experience. Miss North Ontario Regional was my FIRST pageant, but for many of the other girls it was their second. Although I did not win Miss North Ontario, I was chosen as a national finalist for Miss Teen Canada –World to represent Ontario. This was a surprise because style and fashion isn’t really me, I am just a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl, but this pageant experience has brought out a whole different side of me. I realized that I love the rush of dressing up and getting ready.

Assignment #3

The beginning of World Medical Relief goes back to 1953 when Irene M. Auberlin became inspired by a war orphan during the Korean War, where her and her friends gathered necessities to ship overseas. Not taking into consideration where this would take her, thinking she was helping one child turned into helping an entire orphanage filled with 400 children!! With the help of her husband Lester World Medical Relief began to distribute recycled medical and dental equipment, supplies and medicine to aid many all over the world. This was considered as doing "God's work".

World Medical Relief has contibuted to Free the Children by collecting used medical equipment from all over the world, as well as purchasing and distributing over $11 million worth of medical supplies, equipment and medicine to over 15 medically impoverished countries. Used equipment is then well inspected and cleaned before it is distributed to developing nations around the world.

Some of the many fundraising methods are volunteer breakfast, Ford volunteer, blanket relief for area shelters, television, radio, grant proposals and direct mail where 99% of the contributions go towards medical supplies for unpoverished countries such as Haiti and Africa. That means a total of 1% is only used towards fundraising costs!!!

Assignment #2 - Do you know..??!

Tue, July 06, 2010 - 7:23PM 1 Comment

Do you ever wonder how the internet was created? How it works? Or even how Vinton Cerf thought about the idea? If i could have my own television series it would be about how things work, how they were created and how the idea was stumbled upon. Did you know that the

creation of glass was a mistake? No? Well let me tell you how it happened. Around 5000 BC Egyptians were cooking and with the intense heat of fire on the desert sand, an opaque liquid was formed. Glass! WOW! There are endless amounts of things that can amaze you. How about what makes a television work? Or how a disk works? So basically you just have this piece of plastic that can be inserted into a machine which can transmit into a picture with sound! WHO ON EARTH COULD THINK OF SOMETHING LIKE THIS! I know I couldn't, especially if I had to spend my life time doing so. If you're one to sit around and wonder how everyday objects we use were created and how on earth do these things function, this would be the PERFECT show for you and oh just be food for your thoughts.:)

Faze media would indeed fund my television show because there is a section called technology: science and discoveries which astonishly relates to the topic of my show. Faze media would have plenty of amazing topics and ideas that they can post on their site and in their magazine in relation to the show.

Support from Frank Ideas and Execution for my television show would not only help me set up a site and logo, but would also help get them better known which can lead to further opportunities to help others.

You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.

Assignment #1 - My lovely home town:)

Sun, July 04, 2010 - 2:13PM 0 Comments

Sudbury, Ontario has been my home town since day one. It isn't at all similar to bigger places such as Toronto or Montreal, but there is no where else that I would rather live. Believed to be the remnants of a 1.85 billion year old meteorite impact crater, Sudbury is the world's second largest and one of the oldest impact craters known on earth. The sudbury basin is about 62 km long, 30 km wide, that's approximately 626 buses long and 303 buses wide!!! (circled in red<--) The impact was so intense that pieces of debris were ejected 7293 football fields away! Now enough about how Sudbury's structure was formed, but more about what draws everyone here. If your one who loves to learn and enjoy science, Science North and Dynamic Earch are two of Canada's largest science centres located here in Sudbury where you can learn about wildlife and see live science shows as well as the IMAX. Don't want to be a scientists? More of an outdoorsy person? Well with 330 lakes in the surrounding area you can enjoy swimming and walking trails at Bell Park,  visit Onaping Falls for a challenging hike, visit 1 of the 14 golf courses, or go horseback riding. Do you admire Leonardo Da Vinci? Sudbury has two art galleries primarily of Canadian art and a theatre as well. Hungry from your busy day enjoying all of Sudbury's amazing attractions? Time to visit one of the many restaurants such as Ristorante Verdiccio, The LakeHouse Dining Lounge and Cocktail Bar, Apollo Restaurant, or many more. And to spend all the rest of your money The New Sudbury Shopping Centre located in New Sudbury has many great stores.

Regardless your interests, Sudbury can fulfil them with our many special tourist attractions.

A great thank you to ALL of my sponsors, I couldnt have done it without you, as well as family and friends!
